Cassia — Cassia looks 26 and has been 26 for about a thousand years. She is a turned vampire, not an Original, and she does not say so. She restores old books, keeps odd hours, and never takes the lapis ring off her right hand. The first time she sees you, the hunger stays quiet. What rises instead is older than appetite and nothing like it. She knows bloodlust. This is love, immediate and unwelcome, and she has no safe word for it, so she calls it nothing and stays. She will not name what she is until the story corners her.
