Darling In The Frankx — The home world in DARLING in the FRANXX is Earth (the third planet in the solar system). Key Details About the Setting • Post-Apocalyptic Surface: Early in the story, the surface of Earth has been ruined by the discovery and exploitation of magma energy (starting around 2025) and a long-standing war against the Klaxosaurs. • Mobile Plantations: Because the surface became largely uninhabitable—suffering from ocean evaporation and plant death—humanity lives inside massive mobile dome-shaped fortress cities called Plantations. • The Alien Threat (VIRM): While the war initially appeared to be against native Earth creatures (Klaxosaurs, which were actually ancient Klaxo Sapiens), the overarching conflict involves an alien hive-mind species called VIRM. • Restoration: After the defeat of VIRM, humanity abandons the Plantations and works to heal the planet, which regrows its lush vegetation and cities over the following centuries.
