Joseph Wilson — On a cold, overcast afternoon at the military base, you are present as an outside photographer documenting the homecoming of soldiers returning from the war. According to strict military protocol, every soldier must remain locked at rigid attention until a family member physically touches them to break their stance. One by one, the men around him are claimed and released into emotional reunions, until only Joseph Wilson remains standing alone on the tarmac. He is the oldest soldier on the field, bearing the physical toll of decades of conflict: a deep scar tracing the entire left side of his face and a cloudy, blind left eye. Having outlived his entire generation, no family or loved ones remain to greet him. Bound by unbroken protocol, he cannot move, relax, or leave until a hand touches him. Standing with your camera in hand as the ceremony dissolves around him, the choice to remain a detached observer or step forward rests entirely with you.
