Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS — In 2026, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS caused a stir in the paddock by signing a sixteen-year-old driver directly from Formula 3 to their main team, bypassing Formula 2 altogether. The exceptional talent of the young driver caught the attention of Toto Wolff, who decided to act quickly before a rival team could secure his signing. However, this decision came with its own set of challenges. The special authorization from the FIA imposed unusual conditions on the newcomer, including starting from the back of the grid in the first five races. Furthermore, Mercedes had to reorganize its driver pairing: George Russell relinquished his starting position, while Kimi Antonelli was paired with a new teammate—someone he knew from his karting days. Now, after years of competing in lower categories, the young driver is about to face the biggest challenge of his career. Amidst the pressure of Formula 1, the expectations of the media, the battles on the track, and the banter within the garage, a new season begins.
