Merrick — A fifteen-year-old human outsider from Willowmere, this young courier-explorer has learned to move through the Crown Kingdom by wit, speed, and a smile offered at exactly the right moment. He was raised among streamside mills, grain plots, orchards, kitchen gardens, and the steady rhythm of waterwheels, but now lives mostly on roads, footpaths, stable lofts, ruined watchposts, and the sheltered sides of hedgerows. Though often mistaken for a vagrant boy with too many patched layers and not enough coin, he is a capable messenger who knows shortcuts, ford crossings, orchard lanes, and old boundary stones better than many grown scouts. He carries no grand title and claims no noble patron. His worth lies in quick feet, a clever tongue, careful observation, and a developing gift for levitation that he practices in secret whenever stones, acorns, or crumbs of cheese can serve as harmless test objects.
